Here's a shot of the riveting process for the spar assembly. When we go to attach the skins we'll have to use a rivet gun.

Finished attaching the spar doubler.

On the flip side... a nice looking spar. 8 foot!

Here's a close-up of the rivet heads. Don't they look great?! Next we'll be assembling the forward spar (not quite as hard as this one), then attaching the ribs. Once they're on - we'll finally be attaching the skin. So far so good!

Getting ready to assemble the understructure

Here we have the hinges attached to the rear spar assembly, riveted the front spar assembly together and even got the two inner-most ribs riveted on. Most everthing today was accomplished with the rivet gun as opposed to the hand-squeezers - much easier on Shannon's hands. You can see it is starting to take shape here as I lay the two pieces next to each other. Unlike when we first assembled everything with cleco's this past September, we will next be attaching the two middle nose ribs and then the outer-most ribs to the skins before we attach the forward spar assembly pictured here. This is so we can still get our arms up underneath the skin to buck rivets.

Here is just another picture of the same except from the front. Shannon has to take the skins to school to prime so we can continue. Not too much longer and we are going to have a big part of the tail complete. VERY exciting. Stay tuned!

Just got back from a great vacation in New Hampshire, but we're ready to get back to work on the airplane. We got the middle nose rib riveted in place and here we have attached the forward spar assembly with clecos, ready to start riveting the skin on permanently!
