Wings Arrive

Finally! The wings arrive and we begine to take inventory.

We somehow "misplaced" a bunch of pictures between when we got the wing kit delivered at where we're at today. Here we've already prepared much of the main spars, including countersinking and attaching the fuel tank attach nutplates. Additionally, I prepared all the ribs (excruciatingly boring and tedious). Here I am showing off our wing stands. Much of which was fabricated my my talented dad. The braces Shannon and I fabricated. Amazingly, this hardware cost us $90 for a few bolt and aluminum angles! Here is the inboard side fully assembled.

Another angle. We used two 2x4 to make the main brace. Then where the aluminum braces attach to the wood, we used 5/16 x 4 bolts with large washers and lock washers. All other bolts were 1/4".

The traditional "cool view" down the wing ribs.

Just for fun, we went ahead and attached the leading edge wing assembly even though we have to take it off before it officially goes on for drilling. The other side with be the fuel tank which has yet to be assembled (coming soon!).

Here is the outboard wing brace. We used a 2x2" angle attached to the end rib to make sure we had clearance for the skins. We've seen other folks who ended up having to notch the angle for the proper clearance, but we were hoping this would avoid those issues.

We were also fortunate to be given this industrial fan on "extended lease" from our friends Steve and Christy. We installed this for our paint booth portion of the garage (also known as our work bench, grinding, and storage area - it's a one car garage, what do you expect!). I then fabricated a filter to fit around it.

Here are the two wing structures on their respective wing stands. Thanks Dad!
