On August 4th, 2004, Shannon and Kandi Spangler purchased the first sub-kit for the Van's RV-8 aircraft while at EAA's Air Venture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This site has since been created to chronicle our building process and keep our family and friends informed and involved during this exciting endevour. Last updated: December 28th, 2007   (see below for building log) Log Entry December 28th, 2007:  To all our friends and family, Yes - MORE changes in our lives this past year.  Evidently we can't leave well enough alone.  Our trip to Boise this past May (see Flying Trips for pictures) was more than a quick getaway, but also a recon mission.  Shannon had his 3rd and final interview during that visit with Western Aircraft and has since taken a position as an A&P on the Falcon Team.  And so we packed our bags this past July to head West once again - this time to a mountainous playground called Idaho. It hasn't been easy though... the housing market has left us in a lurch.  We still have our place outside of Chicago in St. Charles, IL.  Luckily though, we are renting it out for a few months to a good friend of ours who happens to fly with Citation Shares.  In the meantime our airplane parts were carefully wrapped and packed and are now taking-up space in a spare bedroom in our shared rental here in in the foothills of Boise. :-(  We are exploring our options but for now the airplane project is on hold and we unfortunately haven't even been flying too much.  We know Idaho will be home to us for a long time and absolutely love it here, but there are some obvious sacrifices that must be made before all the pieces come together.  If you've seen our flying pictures of our C-180 flight to Stanley, ID, you'll know why we moved here.  And there's so much more to explore! For now we're experiencing our first winter here in our mountain abode (about 25 miles up Rt 21 from Boise) and have already made some really wonderful friends.  For the New Year, we will be celebrating at the Tamarack Ski Resort where we'll take advantage of the fresh Idaho powder.  Ahhhhhhhh.  Finally - I think we've found our home. :-) In closing, we hope you'll check back periodically for updates.  We have vowed to finish our RV project quickly as soon as we have the facilities to accommodate our venture and so your emails are always some welcomed and provide some much needed encouragement.  Thanks for checking in and we hop you have a safe, happy and prosperous New Year.
